The Heavy Reel Competition

The most fun competition was without doubt competition 44a, the themed heavy reel competition.
Tinkerbel took the gold, followed closely by Puss in Boots, followed in turn by a fearsome She-Devil. We had Cruella De Vil (thankfully there were no Dalmatians in the audience!) , witches, fairies and angels, and Captain Hook, both Senior and Junior - but they didn't manage to do any harm as they were soon chased off by the ticktocking crocodile...
grin
Although there was some slight trepidation amongst participants prior to the competition ("I won't be the only one dressed up, will I?!"), the fourteen dancers in this competition made a great job of it - and it was hugely appreciated by the audience.
WELL DONE, GIRLS!

Prelim Championship: Premier Grand Cru competitions

"(....) Adults, on the other hand, prefer a moderate Tempo, as they have not the physical strength necessary for our lively, energetic dances when taken at a quick pace. This question of Tempo can only be solved by regulating it to suit the majority, rather than the few, and thus assist in the retention of that grace, beauty and elegance of movement which is a natural characteristic of all Irish Dances".(Cormac Mac Fhionnlaoich - introduction of Ár Rincí Fóirne)

Our Premier Grand Cru Dancers - we won't even begin to count the number of dancers in the 30-40 category, but there were all of 23 of them in the over 40 category, and we won't disclose how many of them were in the over 50 category really (never ask a lady her age wink ) - were absolutely fantastic! Coming from almost every participating school, the Scoil Rince Ui Ruairc MC from Limerick being the biggest Grand Cru group, their good humour, hard work, and incredible postive vibes added enormously to the great atmosphere, both in the hall and backstage.
Not to mention that we saw some lovely dancing - the Premier Grand Cru of dancers, as we call them (wine gets better with age too - right? ). did a fantastic job, and all went home laden with gold, silver and bronze.

WELL DONE, LADIES (and one gent!!)!

...... and hope to see you all again next time round. wink
